Indy 500 2009

Yesterday we spent the day living out one of our traditions by attending the Indy 500. Jason and I have gone to the race together for the last 8 years and we were both going with our families/friends for several years before that.

This year we had a group of 14 that included: Jason's boss and his wife who just moved from Idaho last year and several of their friends from all over the country, my mom, our friend Steph and Indy 500 virgins...friends Shannon/Mike and Lindsey/Brad.
We were lucky enough to have a police escort so we didn't have to wait in any traffic. We have been spoiled by our escorts over the years, I don't know if I could go any other way. We normally sit in seats between turn 1 and 2, but this year we had a change of scenery and sat in Stand J, right outside turn 4.

Other than it being really warm and fairly crowded in our seats, it was a great race. The entire crowd was pulling for Danika at the end, but it was pretty obvious that she wasn't going to catch Helio. It was good to see him win and do his traditional climbing of the fence.
I will be watching the awards banquet tonight. I love seeing the drivers and their families all dressed up.
If you've never been to the 500, it is definately a must.

Take your Mom to the Sox Game....okay!

We spend most of our day on Sunday at the White Sox Game. My Aunt, Uncle and Cousins are former ticket holders and lifelong Sox Fans. My cousin, Ross, got an advertisement in the mail that Sunday read "Take your mom to the Sox game" in honor of Mother's Day. So, we all decided this was how my Aunt would want us to spend the day, the first Mother's Day since her death. The weather was beautiful, we ate our way through the park, the girl's enjoyed themselves....a perfect experience except the Sox lost.

13.1

I ran my first half-marathon today. It seems weird to say it was fun, but it really was, with the exception of the last mile. I ran the whole way along side a great friend, the weather was perfect, and my training paid off....all in all a good experience. I am challenging Jason to run with me next year...
My sister-in-law Erin continutes to amaze me and ran the 13.1 miles in 1hr54min, Kristin finished a few minutes after Erin and Ali and I finished around 2hr11min. Jason and I are going out to celebrate tonight!
